Intended Use
For the quantitative in vitro determination of total and non prostatic Acid Phosphatase in serum. This product is suitable for both manual and automated use.
Clinical Significance
Acid Phosphatase (ACP) is an enzyme found throughout the body, its main purpose is to catalyse the specific hydrolysis or cleavage of orphophosphate from orthophosphoric monoesters under acidic conditions.
Acid Phosphatase is an enzyme found in different organs throughout the body but mainly in the prostate gland. The prostate gland is thought to have 100 times more acid phosphatase than any other organ or tissue.
Elevated levels of prostatic acid phosphatase in the blood may indicate the presence of prostate cancer and can therefore be used to monitor treatment and diagnose whether or not the cancer has spread to other parts of the body in particular the bone.
Principle
Colorimetric method.
