Intended Use

For the quantitative in vitro determination of glucose concentration in serum, lithium plasma and urine. This product is suitable for use on the RX Series instruments which includes the Rx Daytona and the Rx Imola.

Clinical Significance

The accurate measurement of glucose in serum or plasma is important in the diagnosis and treatment of carbohydrate metabolism disorders such as diabetes mellitus, neonatal hypoglycemia and idiopathic hypoglycemia.

High levels of glucose in the blood usually indicate diabetes however levels can be raised in many other disorders including kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

Glucose is often measured in conjunction with various tolerance tests after the administration of doses of leucine, insulin, glucagon or glucose.

Principle

Hexokinase method. The method is totally enzymatic utilising both hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzymes.
