Intended Use
An IgE test system is a device intended for the quantitative in vitro determination of immunoglobulin E (IgE) concentration in human serum or plasma. This product is suitable for use on the RX Series instruments which includes the Rx Daytona and Rx Imola.
Clinical Significance
IgE is an immunoglobulin with a molecular weight of approximately 190,000Da and is normally present in the blood in trace amounts. IgE antibodies are the chief immunoglobulins responsible for immediate hypersensitivity reactions in humans.
Continual production of IgE antibodies in response to common naturally occurring allergens and the production of excessive amounts of histamine by the IgE bound mast cells results in the development of such clinically important allergic reactions such as asthma, hay fever, dermatitis and food allergies. Elevated IgE levels are also seen in parasitic diseases, IgE myeloma and in hepatitis.
Principle
Agglutination occurs due to an antigen-antibody reaction between IgE in a sample and anti-IgE antibody absorbed to latex particles. This results in an absorbance change at 570 nm proportional to the quantity of IgE in the sample.
