Intended Use

For the quantitative in vitro determination of Lipase in serum and plasma. This product is suitable for both manual and automated use.

Clinical Significance

Lipase is a digestive enzyme released by the pancreas into the small intestine. It is usually measured alongside amylase to help diagnose diseases of the pancreas including acute pancreatitis and obstruction of the pancreatic duct.

Very high levels of lipase in the blood indicate acute pancreatitis; slightly elevated levels are associated with kidney disease or inflammation of the salivary glands.

Individuals suffering from cystic fibrosis, Crohn’s disease and celiac disease may not have enough lipase to the get the nutrition they require from food.

Principle

Turbidimetric method

Triolein + 2H20  → monoglyceride + 2 oleic acid

The decrease in turbidity is measured at 340 nm.
