Intended Use
For the qualitative in vitro determination of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in urine and serum. This product is suitable for Manual use.
General Background
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone that is released by the cells of the developing placenta. During the first weeks following conception, levels of hCG are detectable in urine and serum, making this hormone an excellent marker for early pregnancy.
The Randox Pregnancy device can detect hCG concentrations as low as 25mIU/ml (Based on WHO 3rd IRP 75/537). This allows detection of pregnancy as early as 7 - 10 days after conception and before the first missed menses. If the first test should prove negative however, it should be repeated a few days later, unless menstruation occurs.
Principle
Latex colloidal particles coated with specific monoclonal antibodies to hCG react with hCG present in the sample forming a coloured complex, which migrates to the reaction zone.
In the reaction zone antibodies to hCG react with the coloured complex forming a pink/red line.
Any unbound particles migrate further along the device strip and are immobilised on the Control line forming a second blue coloured line.
This control line indicates that the test has been performed properly and will be visible in both positive and negative samples.
