Intended Use
For the quantitative in vitro determination of hCG in urine. This product is suitable for Manual use.
General Background
hCG is a glycoprotein secreted by the outer cells of the placenta shortly after the implantation of the fertilised ovum in the uterine wall. Levels in urine rise and can be detected within a few days of the first missed period. Levels continue to rise reaching a peak of 100000-300000 mIU/ml after 2/3 months and then stabilising to an average level of 5000 mIU/ml in the second and third trimester. hCG is thus an excellent marker for the early confirmation of pregnancy.
Principle
hCG present in a urine sample from a pregnant woman reacts with monoclonal Anti-hCG antibodies bound to latex beads. Cross-bridging of adjacent beads occurs producing a strong visible agglutination.
In the absence of detectable hCG no cross-bridging of beads is possible and no agglutination is observed.
