Intended Use
For the qualitative in vitro determination of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in urine. This product is suitable for Manual use.
General Background
Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) is a hormone released by cells of the developing placenta soon after conception. Levels of hCG are detectable in urine in the first week after conception, and so this hormone is an excellent marker for early pregnancy.
The Randox pregnancy test can detect hCG concentrations as low as 25 mlU/ml in urine, allowing detection of pregnancy as soon as 7 – 10 days after conception, and before the first missed menses.
Principle
The test is based on a membrane immunoassay technique.
- The test strip contains latex colloidal particles coated with specific monoclonal antibodies to hCG, which bind any hCG present in the urine.
- The sample migrates along the test strip and antibody bound hCG complexes are immobilised on the test line. This appears as a pink-red line on the strip, indicating a positive test.
- Any unbound coloured particles migrate further along the strip until they are immobilised on the control line, forming a blue line.
The control line indicates that the test has been performed properly and will be visible for both positive and negative samples.
