Intended Use
For the quantitative in vitro determination of Total Protein in serum or plasma. This product is suitable for use on the RX Series instruments which includes the Rx Daytona and Rx Imola.
Clinical Significance
The Randox Total Protein test measures the total amount of protein in the blood. Measurements obtained by this method are used in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases involving the liver, kidney and bone marrow as well as other metabolic or nutritional disorders.
Elevated levels of total protein can indicate dehydration, infection, cancer and Waldenstrom’s disease. Low levels are associated with liver disease, glomerulonephritis, malnutrition and Nephrotic syndrome.
Principle
A coloured complex is formed between protein and cupric ions in an alkaline medium.
