Intended Use

For the quantitative in vitro determination of Haptoglobin in serum. This product is suitable for use on the RX daytona and the RX imola analysers.

Clinical Significance

Measurement of Haptoglobin levels may aid in the diagnosis of hemolytic diseases and certain kidney diseases.

Prinicple

The haptoglobin method is based upon the reaction between antibody and haptoglobin in a serum sample. When the antibody reacts with human haptoglobin in dilute solution, insoluble complexes are formed which can be quantitated by the turbidity they produce. The amount of complex formed varies in proportion to the concentration of haptoglobin in the sample. Turbidity is measured at 340 nm.
